Big Eyed Blythe was first produced in 1972, by the American toy company Kenner, (which has since merged with Hasbro). However, the doll was not a success at the time, and was can celled after one year. But in 1997 photographer Gina Garan was given one of the 25 year old dolls, which led her to start a project showing Blythes in different locations. Following the success of her collection of pictures, published as "This Is Blythe", the vintage dolls shot up in price, and in 2001 Japanese toy company Takara manufactured the first of the new series of 12 inch dolls, (sometimes referred to as 'Neo-Blythe' to distinguish them from the original 'Vintage Blythe') The next year they introduced the petite version. Since then there has been 3 different body molds, nearly 50 full-sized Blythes and almost another 100 Petit Blythes. If you love Petit Blythe, take a look at our Little Pullip dolls.
